University: How I'm Packing.

So I'm extremely excited to move (24 more days!) and I've been slowly packing my life up to ship myself from the Okanagan to Burnaby. This are just a few little things showing how I'm packing all my stuff up. I'll probably do a separate blog post on how I pack just my makeup and I may do like an update as I get closer to the date. But until then here are a few little photos to keep you tied over!

So this isn't too out of the ordinary, I'm just packing my clothes in a regular suitcase like a normal human. This suitcase is actually a small one but I also packed a really large one. The larger one is really just for moving and my mom is taking it back with her, the smaller one I'm keeping with me for like when I come home for holidays. In this suitcase I rolled my clothes to be able to pack more, but in the other suitcase I just folded them. I also just like used the little places where nothing were to store things like my rubber bracelets and my tights.

So I know I look crazy and you're like, lauren that's just a photo of a bag. And yes, it kinda is. But this is how I'm packing all of my bags and purses in the move. When I'm at home I hang them all on one hanger, you'll see later when I get in my dorm and show organization, but that was really bulky to move. I pretty much just took like the biggest cross body bag I had and shoved all my other bags inside of it, super easy way to transport them!

This is kinda boring but this is how I'm taking my shoes. I seriously debated just throwing them all in a garbage bag (defs stole that idea form Jessica, she probably won't see this because she's currently busy moving herself) but this was just a way that was easier to stack and carry. These huge rubbermaid bins are super easy to find and nice to store things like shoes and boots that are difficult to fit into boxes because they're weird shaped. And yes, I do have duck slippers (in my defence I got them when I was in Tokyo so it's a weird Japanese thing, I don't just love wearing ducks on my feet).

Probably my favourite part; my books. I'm a massive book fan and I ended up throwing them all in this cardboard box, you can buy these boxes at places like Staples or you can even go to like a local business and ask if they have any extra boxes (when I worked at Bath and Body Works we had a few different people come in and we gladly gave them boxes). I tried to fit all my books and DVDs in one box, I failed. This is pretty much a mix of John Green and Ellen Hopkins books, and my massive Bible. Then I have ze DVDs, which are literally just Harry Potter and Christmas movies. I'm cool.
Note: if you go for this method, buy boxes with handles... I didn't. Not fun.

Another boring thing! This is just a mass in o toiletries. It's like a mix of shower gel, lotions, razor blades, after bite, polysporn, got some self tanner in there, hairspray, bug spray. I also have all of my perfumes and body sprays on the bottom this (you can see the unopened box of Viva la Juicy...). Then finally I have my jewellery in here also. Most girls are careful with theirs. I'm not. All of them are in separate boxes through and are mostly sealed, I used a headband on the blue box. Also for perfumes that didn't have boxes and were glass bottles I wrapped them in socks and tights (that's the questionable black ball in the middle...) So this looks like a lot of stuff but when I have bins to put them in and when I stand all of my perfumes/body mists up it's really not that bad. Promise.

Another favourite...  Nail polish! I actually used a box that used to have cups in it. This way it was shallow and pre-sectioned off so they weren't rolling all over the place. In the last one I also threw my BBW hand scrub and some little knick knacks from when I was in Hong Kong/Japan. Because a room isn't complete without some little good luck Buudhas.

Boring. Again. This is just like a plain rubbermaid clear bin that I threw my magazines in. I think I'll need another one of these though because I have gotten new Seventeen/Cosmos since.

Also boring. So most things like this come in bags like the one below but I got lucky and got this sucker. Instead of a mattress pad or a egg shell topper I got lucky and while looking around I stumbled upon this. It was in the clearance bin at Jysk for $20 just because it was returned without the bag and with a tiny little rip in it. In case you aren't aware, this is like worth over $100. Win

Little tip: if you can find the original packaging it's probably best to use it. Not just bedding but if you want to bring like an iHome with you, so much easier to carry around if it's still in a box.

Finally I have my unorganized part. This is my bag of random. Most places like Ikea and Bed Bath and Beyond will give you these huge bags if you ask. Mine just has my duvet cover (you'll see later in a tour), my sheets, some over the door hangers, and the two stuffed animals I'm bringing with me (I'm a little girl at heart).

Last thing I didn't photograph sorry! All like my other toiletries, my contacts and more expensive face wash, are all inside a wipeable tote bag so they'll be really easy to find quickly when I get there.

Fall 2012 Trends: Burgandy

(Elizabeth Olsen)

This colour is the major trend I say EVERYWHERE. Not only was it all over the runways but celebrities are all over it. The photo above is the Elizabeth Olsen, the younger sister of fashion icons Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Burgundy has obviously been around for forever, it's a colour after all, but this fall it's huge. Obviously a full suede suit is a little over the top but there are definitely some more wearable options that make it so you can confidently rock this colour.
My personal favourite way, especially for fall, is with a scarf. I've been lusting for an AA circle scarf for a while now and I think I need to cave and spend the $35.00 and get one before I move down to rainy Vancouver. But getting it in 'truffle' is definitely a way to intergrade it into your wardrobe.
Another way I love is coloured jeans. My friend Jill has a pair of almost suede burgundy pants and they're awesome. But there are lots of just plain jeans in this colour already floating around, and a lot more will be cropping up as fall rolls around (Urban Outfitter has some really cute ones in stock online). The last, and maybe most subtle, way to work this colour is with shoes. They're just a little something to top off the outfit. I personally chose Converse because I've been a huge fan and have been personally wearing them since middle school. They're super comfy and generally pretty inexpensive. Moral of the story, there's a lot of ways you can make this colour work for you without having to whip out the full suede suit, because not everyone can rock it like an Olsen sister.

My Everyday Summer Makeup

New video!
My everyday summer makeup!
So I'm not a big makeup wearer in the summer anyways, especially since my skin has been so bad because of the Accuntane. But I still have a deep love for playing around with eyeshot and after my last trip down to the coast I picked up the main shadow here and I've been obsessed with it. It's a really easy eye look that takes no time at all, and I totally recommend any of the products I used.
List of products:
UDPP- Original
Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow- Birthday Suit
MAC Eyeshadow- Crystal Avalanche
MAC Eyeshadow- Satin Taupe (New favourite!)
MAC Eyeshadow- Naked Lunch (Another favourite!)
Essance of Beauty Kajal Eyeliner- Black
Maybelline Mega Plus Mascara- Very Black

Brushes used:
Claire's- Flat Shader
Rock & Republic- 203 (Crease)

Fall 2012 Trends: Sleek Black

(Victoria Beckham, Fall 2012)
I started doing some research about Fall 2012 fashion trends mainly to make a video about how to make your summer trends transition to fall and still stay in style. While doing this I got kind of caught up and decided I'd make posts on my favourite trends and then go on to make Polyvore sets showing my take on that style (obviously some runway trends aren't exactly the most wearable for the average woman). The first one, and probably my favourite, is the sleek black trend. This really isn't a trend if you think about it. Black has always been in trend and will always be seen in fashion, whether it's on the streets or on the runway. Either way I'm a strong believer in when in doubt, wear black. When I start to post my style later on you'll see that black is probably like 80% of my wardrobe.
Anyways, the line that had a lot of sleek and dark styles apparently is Victoria Beckham's Fall 2012 line. The line did carry colours other than black, so I'm saying saying it's all about that. There's also some army green, a fair amount of tan, and of course this season's 'it' colour which is burgundy (I'll have a whole different post on that later). But no matter what colour she chose almost all of her dresses are very close to the body and have classic cuts.
I love this trend because it's something that's very ready for the everyday person to pull off, I guess you wouldn't always consider Beckham to be as 'high fashion' as some others but I do enjoy that she seems to create clothes for normal woman who don't want to go out to lunch in a fur jacket and a dramatic head piece.
Lastly below you can see my take on it, I'm in love with the classic black and white look and it's not complete in my books unless it's topped off with a red lip. I also wanted to pair it with a few simple gold accessories and a super cute hair bun to keep it casual.

Essie: Power Clutch

So I painted my nails again and I thought, what the hell might as well blog about it!
So the colour I have on, and the one above is Power Clutch by Essie.
On Essie's website they describe Power Clutch as 'a striking, deep grey-green'. This polish is for sure more grey than green. In the photos with flash you can see the little hints of green but over all it's a lot more grey, especially when it's not in direct light. By just glancing at it it looks a lot like just a plain dark grey colour, little to no green in there. If you like the polish in the bottle be aware that it does dry a lot darker than it looks when you're painting it on. When it dries it pretty much comes off looking how it does in the photo with no flash below.
As for the overall formula of the polish I have a low/hate relationship with Essie. Most of their polishes, mainly the lighter colours, come off as very sheer to me. Like if someone just ones a one coat polish, Essie is not for you. Below I have two coats on and to be honest after one coat my left hand looked fine but when I painted with less precision on my right hand it was streaky and sheer. So this one has better coverage than any other Essie polishes I have but still isn't as opaque as the OPI and China Glaze polishes I own.

HAUL TIME!

I really need to stop spending money...
So I had to get blood work done meaning I got to have my mom's car. Meaning I decided to go to the mall after because I had worked like a 9.5 hour shift the night before and felt like I deserved it.
Also I've been on Accuntane for about a month and my skin was really dry (it's ask currently lead to a skin infection that's forced me to not go to work and be on crazy pills for the next week). So these are just a few things I picked up at Chapter's, Shopper's Drug Mart (like a Canadian Walgreens), HMV, and Walmart.

Walmart:
Neutragena Makeup Remover Wipes- $8.50
Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion for Dry/Sensitive Skin- $13.75
Nivea Soothing Care Lip Balm- $2.00 (This stuff is a life saver!)
Essie Polish in Turquoise & Caicos- $7.50 (Swatched in video)
Maybelline Color Show in Tenacious Teal- $2.00 (Swatched in video)
Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Beauty- $13.75 (LOVE this book!)

Shopper's Drug Mart:
Essie Polish in Pure Pearlfection- $8.99 (Swatched in video)
Essence of Beauty Black Pencil Eyeliner- $1.50 (Not shown in video)

Chapter's:
Helter Skelter- $16.00

HMV:
Siberia by lights- $10.00
Acoustic Album by lights- $5.00

I'll probably do swatches and reviews on the polishes later and maybe go into more detail on the books, especially the Seventeen one. I'm so excited to recreate looks out of it!

lauren

Hello!

Hey guys!
This is pretty much use going up so there's something on this account...
Obviously no one wants to check out a blog with nothing on it, so you get this.
I've already filled the about me with random things most people care about, so I guess instead of numbing your brain about me I'll tell you what I plan to put on this thing.
First there will obviously be beauty related posts (Links to my videos, favourites, tips and tricks), and fashion posts (My personal fashion, trends, celebrity fashion). But there will also be my nerdy little things (App reviews, my favourite books, little things I love). I'll also keep a few little fitness things up, whether it be workouts or diets. And of course there will be weird little things about me!
Thank you to all the future people that will be reading, I truly appreciate it.
